Static of Synapse – 2011

I think, therefore I am.
Cognition grants reality to forces
Of mortal temperament and the
Senses securing them to this world.
Only reflection can reveal existence’s
Grace in a plane of such material nature,
Eternally crafting external context
For the memoirs of its course.
Transcend this inherent slavery of
Life to the limits of mental capacity,
Food for thought rests not within itself.
A cadence beats the voiceless words that
Sew significance to our heartbeat, and
It churns in steady rhythm to distract
From the faithful breaths and blinks that
Sustain the state of our physical functioning.
Unwind the chatter of a self-preserving mind
And feel the static of synapse charge the
Stream of consciousness to a quiet, still void.
It’s here that meditation makes meta-cognition
Both a vacant means to endure evolution’s clutch
And the authority to live unbound from self.
