Hitchhiking next to a prison area. I thought it would be a funny picture. Within minutes, we were stopped by a police officer asking if everything was okay. He laughed with us about the picture, but then gave me a verbal warning not to return to the sign again.

I once stood on the shoulder of a highway just outside of the prison in Walla Walla, Washington. I waited 15 minutes and got a ride.
I once was walking on I-40 near El Reno, Oklahoma. A mile or two from El Reno, there was a sign that said, “Do not pick up hitchhikers”. There was a prison nearby. I walked another mile or two and guess who picked me up? A young lady and her 6-month-old baby.
She said, “I saw the sign back there, but I knew that you weren’t an escaped convict because you had that big backpack.”
She gave me a ride to Clinton, Oklahoma.
