Hiccups in life happen. When they do, we must remember to breathe. Whether fast, slow, deep, or shallow, as we focus on the breath, we find a center that is unmovable. Whether we’re trying to breathe or not, it’s always there. That is what is means to be alive. If you ever think breathing is boring, jump into the nearest body of water and see how long you can hold your breath before it becomes “interesting” again. It’s not about doing anything “right” or “wrong” it’s about noticing what is already there. Life. Compassion. Curiosity.
I struggle greatly to remain equanimous and centered in life. I am prone to depression and anxiety, but if I have the capacity to sit still and meditate, I have a chance at peace.
